How it works
Join the campus
Sign in and land in that university's library.
Find a resource
Browse by faculty, year, and module, then preview the file.
Share one back
Upload a note or paper that stays visible to the same campus.
Overview
PeerNotes is a campus-scoped place for students to share lecture notes, past papers, and other study resources. I designed and built it solo.
Problem
Shared drives and chat threads are a poor catalog. Finding a file by faculty, year, and module is clumsy, and a link is easy to forward outside the campus.
Solution
A React app on Supabase. Students sign in, browse their own university, and preview files in the browser. There is no separate application server.
Key features
- Faculty, year, and module organization
- In-browser PDF preview and thumbnails
- Ratings, bookmarks, and saved downloads
- Uploads limited to the student’s university
- Row Level Security on notes, profiles, and files
Security notes
A student can read active notes for their own university. Public profiles leave out email and notification preferences. Storage uploads stay in the uploader’s folder, with a size cap and an allow-list of document and image types. These rules live in Postgres. The hardening migration is what turns them on for a hosted project.
Outcome
A student can sign in, find a note for their course, and preview the file in the app.
